Education: College/CEGEP. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Veterinary clinic. Animal hospital. Tasks: Collect samples and perform other laboratory tests. Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Produce diagnostic radiographs. Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery. Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian. Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian. Counsel clients on animal health care. May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties. Area of specialization: Small animals. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Fast-paced environment. Walking. Standing for extended periods.
