Job details
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Dusty. Tasks: Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Professionalism in customer service. Drive lighter, special purpose trucks. Load and unload goods. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Perform brake adjustments. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform preventive maintenance. Receive and relay information to central dispatch. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : AZ class license. Air Brakes Endorsement. DZ class license. Air Brake (Z) Endorsement. Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports. Driver logbook. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Trip reports. Type of trucking and equipment: Refrigerated. Straight truck (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles). Transportation/travel experience: Local. Short-haul. Security and safety: Driver's validity licence check. Driving record check (abstract). Drug test. Medical exam. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel for extended periods. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Physically demanding. Repetitive tasks. Sitting. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Cellular phone. Steel-toed safety boots. Gloves. Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills.
