With our continued growth, we are now seeking a Farm Director to join our team to lead and oversee all aspects of farm production operations.
*POSITION OVERVIEW*
The Farm Director will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing all farm production activities at Champ?s Fresh Farms. This position is responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning and continuous operation of mushroom production, maintaining high operational, financial, and quality performance to meet annual goals, such as cost reduction, quick delivery times, compliance with specifications, and operational flexibility.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Farm Director will provide leadership and direction to the Farms team, fostering a productive and engaged workforce while ensuring a safe work environment. This role requires close collaboration with senior leadership to develop and implement strategies, processes, and programs that align with Champ?s business goals and enhance farm production profitability.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS*
* Oversee all farm production activities, ensuring optimal performance and high-quality mushroom production. Support farm leadership teams in materials management, quality control, and maintenance.
* Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labor, and equipment to improve mushroom production.
* Plan, manage, organize, and take responsibility for all mushroom growing production operations.
* Lead efforts to foster a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on enhancing farm efficiencies and operations.
* Collaborate with farm teams to develop and execute operational plans, including setting priorities, timelines, and resource allocation.
* Develop production schedules and maintain an inventory of raw materials and finished products.
* Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations, working closely with the Quality Assurance team.
* Build and maintain a high-performing team, foster positive relationships, and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
* Manage operational and capital budgets, ensuring effective cost management and profitability.
* Work closely with other departments to ensure aligned efforts toward achieving company objectives.
* Promote sustainable farming practices and contribute to the company?s sustainability goals.
* Planned and implemented changes to farm and compost production plant machinery, equipment, production systems, and methods of work.
* Develop equipment maintenance schedules and recommend the replacement of machinery as needed.
* Recruit, supervise, and train employees. Oversee training of employees in the use of new equipment or production techniques.
*QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS*
* Minimum of 5 years? experience in a mushroom growing or composting leadership role within a medium-sized facility, preferably with a strong background in food processing and/or agriculture.
* Post-secondary education in a technical field, valid trade license, or equivalent experience.
* Strong leadership abilities and interpersonal skills that engage employees and drive productivity.
* In-depth understanding of mushroom production, organic waste management, and agricultural practices.
* Experience in composting is considered an asset and will be highly valued
* Proven track record of developing and maintaining high-performance workplace cultures.
* Experience with quality assurance, good manufacturing practices, and Lean Manufacturing principles.
* Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
