Our schools are teaching communities where principals, vice-principals, teachers and support staff nurture student well-being and challenge students to achieve their best.<p>We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team: <p>Indigenous Student Support Coordinator<p> 1.0 Term Assignment to August 31, 2025 <p>Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week (12 Month Work Year)<p>ESP Level 8: $62,460 to $79,057 <p>Under the direction of the Team Manager of Indigenous Education, the Indigenous Student Support Coordinator assists and supports Indigenous children, youth and families with well-being, identifying systemic barriers, connecting Indigenous students to culture, building partnerships among schools, and with the local First Nations, Inuit and Mtis communities and organizations in support of Indigenous student success. The primary objectives of this position are to improve the experiences of Indigenous children, youth and families. Key areas include (but not limited to): <p> Creating opportunities for Indigenous children and youth to learn and participate in culture, traditions and language; <p> Developing consistent holistic well-being of First Nations, Mtis and Inuit students; <p> Developing a strong, respectful working relationship with local First Nations, Mtis and Inuit families, communities, organizations, Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers throughout the Ottawa area; <p> Ensuring structures and strategies are in place to engage, mentor, monitor and meet the learning needs and stated aspirations of First Nations, Mtis and Inuit students and, <p> Providing support to the school community (Educators). Qualifications Candidates will hold a college diploma or university degree in a related field, and minimum two years of experience working with Indigenous youth. Knowledge of Indigenous cultural teachings and the ability to implement teachings. A combination of education and lived experiences will also be considered for this position; <p> Experience deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities is required for the position; <p> Identification as a First Nation, Mtis or Inuit community member and lived experience with systemic oppression is an asset; <p> Knowledge of Indigenous language, culture, customs and traditions; the Ontario First Nation, Mtis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework and Implementation Plan; <p> Knowledge of relevant Board policies, procedures, current educational and ethno-cultural equity issues; <p> Skills to support and advocate for students and their families in complex social, emotional, behavioral situations; maintain close working relationships with school personnel and other board support staff through regular school visits; and promote and/or maintain positive relations between school and home; <p> Skills to motivate students, mediate, exchange and clarify information with students; and resolve conflicts/problems with students and District personnel; <p> Organization and time management skills to plan, prioritize work, and to deal with multiple schools, Kindergarten to Grade 12; <p> Research and presentation skills for planning and conducting workshops; <p> Ability to gather and evaluate information from a range of sources such as ind
