Scope:
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for identifying new markets and new trends, analyzing and increasing sales of existing markets and for the direct proactive sales effort. Manages all day-to-day activities related to the overall sales and event management efforts to achieve financial results for the Lord Elgin Hotel. Responsible for the integration of the hotel property within the local market to maximize revenues from all sales channels and sources. Sets Sales and Event management strategies and achieves booking goals. Demonstrates outstanding Associate and customer relations.
The Lord Elgin Hotel, built in 1941, stands as a significant historic landmark in Ottawa. Commissioned by Prime Minister Mackenzie King to meet wartime needs, it holds a unique place in the city?s heritage, reflecting a rich legacy. As an independent, locally owned establishment, we are dedicated to supporting the Ottawa community and our team, ensuring that our commitment to local values is at the heart of everything we do.
Primary Responsibilities:
Plan, supervise, improve and evaluate the sales activities at the hotel to meet or exceed business plan goals using sales development, sales and events promotion and sales force administration and development.
Supervise and coordinate day-to-day sales operations to ensure they are properly focused to meet business plan goals and objectives by:
* Creating and implementing tactical action plan(s).
* Reviewing sales contracts, establishing rate guidelines and distributing leads to appropriate Sales and Event Managers.
* Setting annual revenue goals for each Sales and Event Managers and booking channel.
* Monitoring and evaluating progress towards the attainment of the annual booking PACE and volume negotiated room night objectives.
* Developing and proactively managing relationships with Ottawa Tourism.
* Participating in the development and execution of a strategic business plan by providing and analyzing projected market data.
* Develop, monitor and control the annual advertisement and Sales & Events expense budget. Ensure cost containment in accordance with productivity expectations.
* Identify and maximize opportunities to broaden the hotel's market share by coordinating promotions such as sales blitzes, trade show presentations and participation in industry events.
* Plan, supervise and evaluate the work of Associates engaged in the sales of rooms, convention related food and beverage and public space. This includes implementing incentive programs to stimulate increased productivity and establishing measurable standards of performance.
* Receive and interpret market share data to identify trends that affect sales and maintain a tracking system to produce sales statistics and to identify opportunities for increasing revenue and market share.
* Participate with Revenue Management team to review and develop forecast, analyze and identify market trends and discuss tactics to increase business volumes.
* Enhance customer relations and increase business by soliciting sales personally on selected accounts and maintaining an active role in the community, civic and industry organizations.
* Promote and encourage inter-departmental cooperation and communication to improve customer service and overall satisfaction by coordinating inter-departmental sales activities and conducting weekly sales & events meetings
* Ensures costs control and budget expenses are followed: Approve purchase orders, VIP gifts, complimentary rooms
* Train new sales and/or banquet associates as required, perform performance appraisals and implement disciplinary action according to company policy as needed. Assist with the continuous development of sales skills throughout the hotel's front-line positions.
