*Overview*
We are looking for an legal assistant to assist us in our established international intellectual property (IP) and business law practice. We are a boutique firm dealing with advancements in the arts and the sciences, with a client base that spans the globe. We have a professional and collegial work environment. We are looking for a self-motivated person to complement our team.
The successful applicant will be providing legal assistance and support to our agents with respect to patent and trademark agency work, and to our lawyers with respect to advising clients, opinion work, commercialization and litigation matters.
*Responsibilities*
* Interaction with clients: greeting clients, meeting with clients, responding to client emails, booking appointments, scheduling initial consultations, taking notes to file and speaking with clients on the phone;
* Financial duties: retainers; logging time sheets; preparing draft invoices; billing, collections, processing client payments, paying bills and corresponding with service providers;
* Legal: research; drafting legal documents, filing documents in court, arranging for service; general law firm work
* Agency: reviewing, preparing correspondence and entering due dates from and to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) for review by agent/lawyer; all other general IP agency work
* Office administration: a wide variety of tasks typical of an office, including printing, faxing, emailing, managing paper files, shredding, etc.
The successful applicant will have:
* Excellent organizational skills;
* Meet deadlines;
* Very good oral and written communication skills;
* Can manage priorities and follows instructions;
* Strong interpersonal skills and acts professionally;
* Strong computer skills and English language ability
* French not required but considered an asset;
* Takes initiative and can work independently; and,
* Exercises good judgement and understands when to seek direction
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $37,743.40-$54,645.41 per year
