*Immediate Supervisor* ? Nurse *Primary Duties* ? In accordance with standards, philosophy and goals established by Chief and Council, the Health Care Aid provides a variety of personal and respite care services to clients in accordance with the client-specific care plan. Services are delivered within clients homes or at the community health center. *Specific Duties* ? Without limitation to the above primary duties, the Health Care Aide has the following specific duties: *Supportive Care* 1. Provide services where assigned within the community; 2. Provide holistic care with compassion and dignity; 3. Provide personal care services based on care plan and program policies; 4. Promotes client independence and decision-making; 5. Refrain from imposing own beliefs and values on client and family; 6. Assist with grooming needs such as bathing, mouth care, hair care, nail and skin care, and dressing; 7. Assist with feeding as per care plan; 8. Assist with toileting, ensuring client safety, privacy, and cleanliness; 9. Ability to safely assist with transfer and lifts; 10. Provide client supervision for designated periods of time to provide respite for family caregivers; 11. Maintain confidentiality of all client information; *Specialized Care* 12. Safely assist clients with ambulation, transfer and lifts, positioning, and range of motion and other forms of exercise; 13. Provide personal and comfort measures to clients, including nutrition, pain management, emotional and spiritual support; 14. Instruct and assist client in use of medical and mobility equipment and supplies, within scope of knowledge; 15. Assist with treatments as assigned; 16. Reminding clients to take medication as directed/dispensed; *Reporting and Recording* 17. Record activities and findings in client?s health record; 18. Report changes in client condition and non-compliance to the case manager; 19. Report health and safety concerns observed in client homes to the case manager; 20. Report all accidents immediately to the case manager; 21. Complete timesheets, mileage sheets, and other reports per program requirements; *Education* 22. Provide client-specific training to client and family within scope of knowledge; 23. Encourage healthy lifestyle, diet, and physical activity; 24. Participate in orientation and training sessions to maintain and learn new skills; *General* 25. Expected to attend community meetings and assist with programming within the community; 26. The terms of the Dakota Plains Wahpeton Nation?s Human Resource Policy are incorporated as part of the Job description and the employee is required to become familiar with the content of the Human Resource Policy; 27. Complies with the terms of the Human Resource Policy as may exist from time to time and which terms are not otherwise in conflict with the job description; 28. Adheres to the Codes of Conduct as contained in the Human Resource Policy as may exist from time to time; 29. Encourages and fosters a team spirit within the Dakota Plains Wahpeton Nation and its operations generally. *Qualifications:* The qualifications of the Health Care Aid are determined in the absolute discretion of the Band Manager depending upon the needs of Dakota Plains Wahpeton Nation at the time: 1. Health Care Aid Certificate from an accredited college; 2. Home and community care and/or long-term care experience is an asset; 3. Knowledge and understanding of the principles of holistic health; 4. Knowledge of principles of safe body mechanics and ability to lift at least 20 kilograms; 5. Knowledge of principles and practices of infection control, including universal precautions (e.g. hand-washing, disposal of sharps, etc); 6. Valid Manitoba driver?s license; 7. Use of own vehicle will be required; 8. Working experience with First Nations with an understanding of the Particular issues encountered by First Nations; 9. Knowledge of traditional cultural heritage and language is a- LocationEdwin, MB
