*Work hours:* This position offers a schedule of 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm

*General Purpose:*
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Communications Specialist is responsible for public relations, engagement, and communications support for the Township of Wilmot?s programs, and services.
To lead in the creation and maintenance of strategic digital content for the Township?s social media channels, including photos and video. To oversee content for the Township?s official website, in collaboration with the Township?s Communications Committee, providing format-appropriate content in plain language, following legislative requirements. To design, produce and distribute digital and print materials, including advertising, newsletters, and other information and promotional materials to further the goals of the Township.
*Responsibilities:*
* Leads the development and implementation of corporate-wide and project-based communication strategies, including establishing key metrics.
* Responsible to oversee and collaborate on all communications efforts, including website and social media, print material, public relations point person, press releases, corporate advertising, branding, marketing, public consultation, civic engagement, and emergency communications information.
* Implement, monitor and update the Corporate Communications Plan.
* Be the primary administrator for the Township website
* Monitor social media channels and work with program area staff to respond in a timely fashion to inquiries, as appropriate.
* Work with the corporate communications team, under the Office of the CAO, to implement an effective communications strategy for the Township?s internal and external stakeholders.
* Consults with and provides communications advice to the CAO, Corporate Leadership Team and elected officials.
* Acts as the primary media liaison and corporate spokesperson while establishing and maintaining an excellent working relationship with the media.
* Inform and engage the public on the township?s key decisions, programs, services, policies and initiatives.
* Participation in special projects that align with the Township?s Strategic Plan, including creation of community engagement, communications policies.
* Designs, authors, edits and issues public communications, including media releases, advisories and other communications intended for public or media consumption.
* Research new and emerging communications and social media trends, making recommendations for improvements to current practices.
* Establishes, implements and monitors corporate advertising, corporate graphic standards and Township branding procedures.
* Oversee the implementation of the corporate communications strategy, identifying target audiences and facilitate implementation of the strategy using a variety of communication platforms.
* Acts as the Emergency Information Officer in accordance with the municipalities Emergency Response Plan.
*Qualifications:*
* Post secondary education in Communications, Digital Media, or a related discipline
* Minimum three (3) years? experience, preferably in the Public Sector
* Exceptional writing ability, creativity and the drive to take initiative are essential skills as is a focus on quality customer service
* Excellent public relations skills, including writing and editing
* Experience conducting research, analysis, evaluation and policy drafting
* Proven ability to exercise discretion, good judgement, diplomacy and confidentiality
* Well-developed problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Ability to work independently and to display initiative in pursuing new challenges and opportunities
