We extend our respect to all First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples for their valuable past and present contributions to this land.<p>Under the direction of the school principal, the Interpreter is responsible for:<p><p> providing interpreting and other support services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students;<p> facilitates communication among deaf and/or hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school system;<p> offers tutoring and/or note taking services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students when necessary;<p> participates in team meetings and assists the classroom teacher in fostering positive attitudes toward deafness;<p> and performs other duties, as assigned by the Supervisor.<p><p> <p>Required Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:<p><p> Secondary school diploma;<p> a three year Community college diploma in sign language interpreting;<p> 1.5 years of related experience;<p> excellent communication skills; <p> the ability to establish a rapport and work with individuals on a one-to-one basis;<p> initiative and commitment; <p> and the ability to work as a team member. <p> Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.<p> Being Fully Vaccinated with a COVID-19 Vaccine or participating in mandatory regular rapid antigen testing is a condition of employment in the Ottawa Catholic School Board.<p><p> <p>In addition, the following will be considered an asset: <p><p> Membership in the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) and the Ontario Interpreter Services (O.I.S.);<p> and NVCI, CPR and First Aid.<p><p> <p><p>Salary: Hourly rate of $36.56 plus 4% vacation pay<p>How to Apply: All applications for the role of Casual Interpreter must be submitted through Apply to Education.
