TEACHER OF THE DEAF / HARD OF HEARING 2024-2025<p>1.0 FTE CONTINUING <p> <p>The District is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing. This is an itinerant district position working out of the Henry Grube Education Centre effective September 1, 2024. Travel will be required.<p>This is a position of Special Responsibility and will be filled by competition.<p><p>Services provided by this position include: <p>Participate as a member of transdisciplinary team and consult with school-based, District and community partners to assist with the inclusion of learners with identified hearing differences;<p>Interpret the learner?s hearing differences and implications of these hearing differences<p>Assess the level of support required<p>Coordinate and prepare Individual Education Plans (IEP?s) for students designated with hearing difference<p>Coordinate referrals for hearing assessments, BC Deaf Education Committee (BCDEC), and Auditory Outreach Provincial Resource Program (POPDHH) referrals etc.<p>Identify and order materials and technology and coordinate hearing technology repair<p>Monitor learner use of hearing aids, FM systems and other technology that assists student learning and communication<p>Provide the classroom teacher with information regarding the role of Education Assistants in the implementation of strategies for students who are Deaf / Hard of hearing<p>Provide or arrange professional development/inservice surrounding hearing and hearing differences for learners, teachers and paraprofessionals<p>Provide consultation for parents of learners with hearing differences<p>Model and provide information regarding inclusive practices<p>Help develop self-advocacy for students with identified hearing differences<p>Coordinate Kindergarten hearing screenings and referrals<p>Qualifications: <p>Valid BC Teaching Certificate<p>Diploma or Master?s degree in Education of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing or certified by the Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CAEDHH)<p>Recent Classroom Teaching Experience (minimum 2 years)<p>Valid BC Driver?s License<p>Fluency in American Sign Language (Preferred)<p>The starting annual salary for this Teacher position ranges from $64,594 to $106,217, prorated to FTE. Placement on the grid is based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.<p> <p>School District No. 73 is an equal opportunity employer.
