Job details
The Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society is seeking an Archival Assistant to join our team at the Heritage Centre located at 7 Scott Avenue, Grand Falls-Windsor. The ideal candidate will support all aspects of the GFW Heritage Society?s Collections Management Policies, with the primary responsibility being to assist our Collections Managers in looking after our large collection of artifacts and archival materials.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assigning the accession numbers to all incoming artifacts.
- Recording provenance and location of materials as they are donated.
- Cataloguing and photographing/scanning materials.
- Inputting information into PastPerfect museum program.
- Help with planning and research related to exhibitions.
- Assist with references when needed.
- Label manuscripts, folders and containers.
- Responsible for assembling, cataloguing, preserving, and managing valuable collections of historical information.
- Assuring that all required paperwork for acquired acquisitions be completed and signed, ie: cataloguing sheets.
- Responsible for handling day to day financial transactions, such as petty cash, e-transfers, and sales transactions as required.
- Responsible for maintaining the cataloguing system.
- Grant research, preparation and applying for grants.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Office Administration diploma/Business diploma or high school diploma with experience or education related to museum or archival studies
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of, but not limited to, office equipment such as computers,
printers/photocopiers, scanners.
- Knowledge of cataloguing systems.
- Working knowledge of professional standards and best practices for archives and museums.
- Have strong attention to detail and handling of artifacts.
- Able to carry out basic conservation and preservation tasks.
- Have good communication skills.
- Good research skills for acquiring artifact or archival information.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Excellent time management and the ability to prioritize work.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Proven experience as an Archival Assistant.
- Be willing to upgrade qualifications relating to the Archival Assistant position and keep up to date on any archival workshops, training, and conferences that would be beneficial to the Heritage Centre. Such courses to be at the cost of the Society?s expense
