We assure supportive learning environments, meaningful experiences and healthy relationships that create opportunities to develop resilience, to gain diversity in perspectives and to achieve enduring success for both staff and students.<p>The Parkland School Division has two Permanent Part-time (0.929 FTE) Education Assistant II positions available at Ecole Meridian Heights School, in Stony Plain, Alberta.<p>Position 1: will work in two Grade 6 classrooms supporting behavioural and learning needs. Must have experience with externalizing behaviors and small group instruction.<p>Position 2: in a K-9 school and will work primarily in a Grade 4 classroom supporting students with ASD and intellectual disabilities. Will support students with externalizing behaviours and a non-verbal student with AAC devices. <p>Being bilingual in English/French would be an asset as well as experience working with small reading groups.Function and Purpose of Position <p>Educational Assistants II (EA II) assist teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EA IIs work as members of the school and as members of a student support team. EA IIs have met PSDs mandatory educational requirements. The minimum mandatory educational requirement is an Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education. EA IIs may:<p> Work under the supervision of one teacher or several different teachers<p> Work independently with students or in the classroom with the teacher<p> Work with a particular special needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program<p> Work as part of a multidisciplinary team<p> Perform clerical tasks in the classroom or schoolThe EA II provides routine and repetitive instructional support. Under the direction of the teacher, the EA assists the student in acquiring the education and skills necessary for advancement in the educational setting. To reach this objective, the EA II follows an individually prescribed learning program, through team planning and working one-on-one with the student(s). This involves routine recording, basic charting and logging of observations on anecdotal record sheets or data sheets. EA II does provide personal care to students.Instructional Support <p> Provide assistance in all curriculum areas/one on one or in small groups as directed by teacher.<p> Help with organizing notebooks, timetables, agendas, and lockers.<p> Scribe notes from board, scribe and read exams for students as required.<p> Modify and adapt the program for individual students as directed by the classroom teacher.<p> Assist in the implementation of Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and adaptive devices.<p> Assist students with computer access.<p> Provide support to students utilizing various educational software packages.<p> Providing assistance to communicate with peers and adults in the school (e.g. American Sign Language, assistive tech. devices).<p> Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Mtis and Inuit for the benefit of all students.
