Job details
Cojax Heavy Duty Repair located in Coombs, BC on Vancouver Island is looking for a full time machinist to add to our team. Our facility carries out maintenance and repairs to a fleet of highway truck and trailers and is branching out to provide fabrication and machine shop services to our group of sister companies and the general public. Our ideal candidate would be a certified Journeyperson Machinist who posses practical experience and a strong understanding of all machine shop processes. However, enthusiastic and highly motivated uncertified journey persons and apprentice machinists will be considered.
Responsibilities:
A regular day working at Cojax would include setting up, operating, and maintaining machine shop equipment, providing job estimates, ordering of materials and creating basic drawings. It could also be working along side team members servicing and maintain truck and or trailers or other equipment which comes to site.
Our machinists would need to be able to keep work areas and equipment clean and tidy, regularly inspect and maintain their tools, measure and lay out work pieces, and fit and assemble machined components using hand and power tools. The ability to work within tolerances of .001?/.01mm and more importantly when these tolerances would be required.
Strong understanding of advanced measuring techniques and will need to be able to read and interpret "sketched drawings", blueprints, charts, and tables. A strong foundation in mathematics will allow the candidate to determine dimensions and tolerances for quality assurance purposes.
Most importantly strong interpersonal skills is a requirement, along with the ability to ask good questions and accept direction.
Duties:
Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine shop equipment including manual
lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other equipment.
Use machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, drilling, and grinding.
Reproduce machine parts from provided samples.
Manufacture new hydraulic cylinder components.
Perform regular tool and equipment inspections and preventative maintenance.
Inspect and verify dimensions of machined parts and tools using micrometers, Vernier calipers, height gauges, and other specialized measuring instruments to maintain quality control standards.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operations to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations.
Fit and assemble machined components using hand and power tools.
Requirements:
Certified Journeyperson Machinist.
Uncertified journey person and 3rd -4th year apprentices will also be considered.
Industrial Machinist ? shop experience working as a manual machinist is a required
Ability to produce and follow basic drawings.
Demonstrated ability to work safely and with minimal direction
Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate complicated technical ideas both written and verbally.
Basic computer skills such as emailing
A positive attitude and collaborative nature and openness to take on new challenges
Work independently and capable of meeting production deadlines with minimal supervision.
Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
CNC knowledge considered an asset
