*Job Description*
We are seeking an Accountant to join our finance team and play a critical role in supporting the financial health of our organization. As a core member of the finance team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions, including maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, payroll, and assisting with financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will help keep our financial operations running smoothly, ensuring they support our company goals while upholding our core values of reciprocity, trust, integrity, and respect.
Responsibilities of this role include:
* Financial Operations: Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, and general ledger activities; apply analytical methods to verify data completeness and accuracy, including conducting a thorough review of financial transactions, identifying any inconsistencies or discrepancies, and ensuring that all entries are properly documented and aligned with financial standards.
* Analytics & Performance Management: Gather and organize financial data for performance reports; assist in analyzing trends and ensuring accurate metrics are available for management review and strategic planning.
* Financial Reporting: Prepare and maintain financial records, assist with month-end and year-end close processes, and ensure financial data is accurate and compliant with reporting requirements.
* Process Improvements: Maintain systems within the finance department, including the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, to ensure efficient processing of accounting transactions; support ongoing improvements in the financial processes by identifying and resolving discrepancies and providing recommendations for system improvements.
* Team Growth and Mentorship: Assist with supporting team member development both within the finance team and the broader organization by sharing knowledge in financial systems and processes.
* Ad Hoc Projects: Provide financial analysis and support for team members throughout the organizations on ad hoc projects and initiatives as may be required.
*Qualifications*
* You have (or are working towards) a CPA designation and 3+ years of experience in accounting in professional services organizations; experience in an environmental consultancy is an asset.
* You have proven experience handling full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR, general ledger reconciliation, and financial reporting. Project accounting experience is also an asset.
* You are a capable user of the MS Office Suite and have experience working in various ERPs; experience with Deltek Vantagepoint is a significant asset.
* You have experience processing payroll and a strong understanding of Canadian payroll practice and BC employment standards; Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP
