Successful candidates will join the SPS auxiliary clerical pool and will have the opportunity to be posted to temporary administrative assignments throughout the organization. SPS clerks are responsible for providing support to various sections throughout the organization including but not limited to the Support Services Bureau, Investigative Services Bureau, and the Office of the Chief Constable.Reporting to a unit/section manager, auxiliary clerks perform a range of clerical work which may require independent judgement and initiative within defined guidelines. Duties will vary based on the demands of the section. Assignments will vary in length, providing coverage for short-term leaves, special projects and assisting with additional workflow. Upon completion of an assignment, an incumbent will return to the Auxiliary clerical pool and will be eligible for assignment in other sections. Depending on the type and complexity of work to be performed, assignments will either be at the Clerk 2 or Clerk 3 level.ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW:The Major Crime Section is excited to offer a unique clerical assignment for a seasoned Administrative Clerk with an interest in gaining hands-on experience in Major Case Management, Investigative Training, and Investigative Reporting. The length of this assignment is subject to the needs of the department and will offer up to 35 hours per week for approximately 6-12 months. While assigned to the Major Crimes Section, the successful candidate will support with data entry, coordination of Initial Investigative Reports, maintenance of employee training records, filing, coordination of applications to the Major Case Management Committee, preparation of training-related documents and qualifications, recording meeting minutes, and providing general administrative support to the Major Crime Section.The successful candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to accurately follow both oral and written instructions. A keen eye for detail, precision in data entry, and meticulous record-keeping are required. APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:The successful incumbent will have completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses in word processing, office practices and computer applications with a minimum of one year of experience and training in an office environment. An accurate typing speed of 45 wpm is required.*Applicants who are short-listed will be invited to attend a skill testing session for typing, word and/or excel.
