Senior Project Engineer (Engineering, Design & Construction, Wastewater Treatment Plant)Position Status: Full-Time Temporary (This position to last not later than November 7, 2025)Department: Liquid Waste ServicesEmployee Group: ExemptLocation: 4515 Central Boulevard, BurnabySalary Range/ Wage Rate: Professional / Technical, Level P3A ($4,737.15 - $5,573.08 bi-weekly) Our Liquid Waste Services Department is seeking a *Senior Project Engineer who will work in the Engineering, Design & Construction (EDC) group, Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Division. The LWS WWTP Division is responsible for delivering projects related to Metro Vancouver?s five major WWTPs. The Division?s projects have a diverse range of scope (from studies through design and construction), budget (under $1M to over $100M), and technical expertise. The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for serving as a project manager on our wide portfolio of projects. You are a project manager with good technical knowledge of wastewater treatment facilities. You are a self-starter able to drop in on a project already in progress, develop and maintain positive relationships, identify and resolve issues, utilize project management tools effectively, and lead the project team to successful completion of the project. You are responsible and accountable for the work that you take on and you strive in a continuous learning environment. You have the ability to understand ?big picture? engineering problems, without losing sight of the details. You are proficient developing and executing project work plans by applying cost-effective engineering solutions and out-of-the-box methodologies when required. You embrace the challenge to coach, mentor and guide others.The *Senior Project Engineer reports to the Lead Senior Engineer. This role: Performs complex and varied engineering and project management work that may involve project design and management for large projects. Applies principles and practices of profession to ensure results are achieved in a sound and practical manner. Performs a range of engineering and project management work including design; document preparation; specifications; contract administration; budgetary oversight; cost estimates; scheduling; and report writing. Provides project management oversight for multiple projects, specifically at Metro Vancouver?s wastewater treatment plants. This role requires the management of various projects which are at various stages of completion including phases of preliminary design, detailed design, procurement, construction, and post-construction. The projects range in scope including emergency repairs, equipment overhauls, and innovative clean-energy pilot projects. Analyzes and assesses requirements and recommends optimal methods for achieving objectives. Responsible for overall project budgets and monitors and controls costs ensuring the effective and efficient expenditure of allocated funds. Participates in short and long range planning. Makes decisions and provides recommendations on a variety of issues with broad policies and mandates as guidelines. Uses ingenuity to devise original, practical and economical solutions. Prepares and reviews project designs, technical reports and contract specifications for consulting services, equipment and construction. May prepare detailed plans, calculations, and specifications related to a wide variety of engineering projects. Acts as Metro Vancouver?s appointed representative in assigned matters of project and contract obligations including project initiatives, site inspections, and determination of regulatory requirements. May be required to negotiate significant technical or financial interest on behalf of Metro Vancouver. Directs the actions of consultants recommending changes to scope and negotiating new terms as required.
