Our Public Works Engineering Operations Department has a temporary full-time opportunity for an Administration Technician 1 or 2- Engineering, to provide engineering, administrative and technical work of considerable complexity and variety. The classification level award, 1 or 2, will be dictated by successful applicant experience and credentials. You will evaluate and process the single-family servicing building permit applications to ensure conformance with municipal standards, bylaws and constructability requirements. You will liaise with the public, utility companies, contractors and internal staff in order to provide a variety of practical and technical information and assistance; prepare estimates and work for the installation of water services, sewage and drainage connections and impacted driveway and street work.We are looking for someone with strong practical experience with knowledge of methods, practices, functions, regulations, by-laws and policies applicable to work performed, sound knowledge of engineering services, survey and drafting principles and of utility design and construction. You should have strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to recognise and reconcile construction issues diplomatically. You must be self- motivated and have the ability to perform a variety of administrative control duties and calculations with minimal supervision; perform a variety of technical and practical assessments and inspections , varied simple calculations; prepare estimates for cost and other items; read and interpret engineering plans and specifications; understand and apply bylaw requirements, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, developers, engineers and staff.Qualifications:You have a high school diploma augmented with practical experience and supplemental courses or post-secondary technology or engineering education and sound technical experience. Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate an ability to diplomatically and effectively work within the construction navigate the construction possessing a Technical Certificate or Diploma in civil, mechanical or structural engineering or a related field. A valid Class 5 BC Driver?s Licence is required.
