*Join Our Team!* The Cheer coach is a key member of the Cheerleading Program, collaborating closely with members, athletes, and coaches of the Grande Prairie Gymnastics Society (GPGS). This role is responsible for coaching, guiding and mentoring cheerleading athletes to further achievement & success. Key duties include planning for and implementing developmentally appropriate cheerleading programs for athletes of all ages and abilities. The ideal candidate is an organized, dependable, and team-oriented individual who has technical expertise, emotional intelligence and a supportive coaching style.
*Key Responsibilities:*
· Deliver age-appropriate cheerleading and movement instruction to individuals of all abilities.
· Regularly assess individual and team progress, ensuring continuous development and improvement.
· Prepare athletes for competitions, providing support and guidance during events.
· Create and distribute report cards and certificates to recognize athlete achievements.
· Maintain consistent communication with the supervisor regarding athlete and team progress.
· Foster a positive, collaborative, and motivating environment that supports athlete growth.
· Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities.
· Promote cheerleading in the community through event participation and support.
· Assist in organizing Cheerleading Summer Camps, ensuring an engaging and structured program.
· Provide guidance and mentorship to junior coaches and assist in coaching clinics.
· Uphold health and safety protocols, ensuring a safe environment for athletes.
· Address member concerns professionally and with empathy.
· Activate emergency protocols when necessary.
· Perform other tasks as assigned.
*Qualifications:*
· Previous cheerleading experience as an athlete or a coach
· Excellent communication skills
· Ability to lead, motivate, and coach all age groups & abilities with empathy, patience and support
· Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to use tact, diplomacy, and mature judgment
· Ability to maintain confidentiality
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Energetic team player with an outgoing, friendly, responsible, punctual, and adaptable attitude
· Strong commitment to safety, ensuring safe work practices are implemented and maintained
· Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in interpreting and applying relevant regulations, policies, and procedures
· Proven ability to manage change and resolve conflicts using effective conflict resolution techniques
· Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search
· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
*Assets:*
· International Cheer Union (ICU) Certification, minimum Level 3
· Experience coaching tumbling
· Experience working with children
· Thorough knowledge of Grande Prairie Gymnastics Programs
· Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders certification
· First Aid with CPR
· NCCP certification (will be provided upon hire)
