*Job Overview:*
We are seeking a passionate and creative Cook to join our team at The Main, a cafe dedicated to showcasing a R.E.A.L (regenerative, ethical, authentic and local) food menu. The cafe is just one element of a broader project to bring regenerative agriculture and R.E.A.L food to the region of Port Hope. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in cooking techniques, a willingness to work with farm-fresh produce, and an interest in participating in the development of our farm.
*Wage: *$20/hr depending on experience
*Schedule:* Full time hours on a varying schedule. The Main is open from 8am-3pm seven days a week with plans to extend hours into the evening several days a week.
*Housing: *Optional accommodation is available for candidates relocating to the Port Hope area or in need of local accommodations. A shared apartment with six private rooms is offered at a reduced rate. Please contact us for more information.
*Responsibilities:*
_Food Preparation:_
* Prepare menu items and retail products according to recipes provided, using fresh and seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms.
* Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in adapting dishes based on ingredient availability and seasonal changes.
* It?s important to us that everything we sell is made from scratch whenever possible.
* Collaborate with management to provide input on menu development and recipe testing, offering creative ideas for utilizing seasonal produce and local ingredients.
_Quality Control:_
* Ensure consistency in flavor, presentation, and portion sizes across all menu items.
* Maintain high standards of food quality, freshness, and presentation, conducting regular taste tests and visual inspections of dishes.
* Ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards in all aspects of food handling and preparation.
Team Collaboration:
* Work closely with other kitchen staff and front of house staff to ensure prep is completed efficiently and service runs smoothly.
* Work with management to ensure that regular inventories are completed and order lists are submitted on time.
*Qualifications:*
* Solid cooking skills with experience working in a kitchen in a cafe, restaurant, or similar setting.
* Passion for working with farm-fresh, seasonal ingredients and an interest in sustainable agriculture.
* Creativity and adaptability in developing and executing menu items.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high food quality standards.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Willingness to learn about food production and participate in farm activities as needed.
*Education and Experience:*
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Ontario food handler?s certification.
* Culinary training or relevant experience is required.
* Interest in sustainable, regenerative agriculture and farm-to-table principles.
