The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board<p>Invites applications for the position of:<p>Indigenous Student Mental Health Worker (K-12)<p>1.0 FTE Permanent Position <p>Under the general supervision of the Mental Health Leader and Superintendent of Education, the Indigenous Student Mental Health Worker will provide clinical mental health services, academic support, engagement and advocacy for Indigenous students by: <p><p> Developing and facilitating implementation of individual school re-engagement plans for students based on understanding of student needs/interests and school/community resources;<p> Providing immediate clinical interventions as needed;<p> Providing academic support for Indigenous students as appropriate either individually, small group or classroom;<p> Working with students individually or in groups in areas of self-management, conflict-resolution and reducing high-risk behaviours;<p> Checking in with students regularly to ensure school re-engagement plan is being implemented and followed;<p> Improving student progress toward goals and attendance;<p> Work with the Indigenous Education team to organize and facilitate culturally relevant experiences for students both in the school and in the community;<p> Providing individual and/or family counselling and support to students as determined necessary by the Mental Health Lead;<p> Work cooperatively with other counselors and student services personnel in collaboration with school administration; <p> Safeguard the confidential nature of the professional relationship with students/clients and the information obtained within that relationship as required by law. <p><p> <p> <p>Qualifications:<p><p> Post-Secondary education in human services with an emphasis on Indigenous Studies or equivalent education and experience; <p> Registered in good standing with a College recognized by the Psychotherapy Act 2007;<p> Current knowledge of policies, legislation, programs, and issues related to the community, its institutions and services in their areas of practice;<p> Up to date knowledge of pertinent Acts and Regulations and their amendments; <p> Comprehensive understanding of trauma-informed principles and applications in an education setting; <p> Able to work independently and display initiative, with strong verbal and written communication skills;<p> Experience in human services or education with an emphasis on Indigenous Studies or equivalent;<p> <p> Knowledge and understanding of First Nation cultures, values, ways of knowing and<p> histories;<p> <p> <p> Fluency skills in Ojibwe is an asset;<p> <p> <p> Identification as a First Nation, Métis or Inuit community member and lived experience of this identity is a considerable asset; <p> <p><p>The successful applicant will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening document deemed satisfactory to the Board (please do not submit your Police Records Check with your application). <p><p><p>Applicants are required to submit a completed Application for Non-Educational Positions (available on Board website), cover letter, resume, degree/diploma, OCSWSSW (or similar) college registration and certifications no later than 3 :30PM December 06, 2024 directly to Apply to Education only .<p> <p><p>*If you require accommodations at any time throughout the application process, please contact Employee Services prior to the posting closing date so that appropriate arrangements can be made.<p> <p> Tony Romeo Jean-Paul Tennier<p>Board Chairperson Director of Education
